We are thrilled to announce that for the second time in a row, Chef James and La Boca have been nominated as a finalist of the Copa Jerez USA competition! Copa Jerez is an international competition featuring top chefs and sommeliers from across the world in which each team is commissioned with choosing the ultimate matches of Vinos de Jerez (sherry) with food. It was created to showcase the diversity of sherry and its remarkable ability to match with food. Four finalists have been selected to compete to become the US representative for the international challenge. The other finalists are Scott Jones and Melodie Reynolds, from No. 9 Park, Boston, MA and Gil Avital and Anup Joshi, from Tertulia, New York, NY. The live finals will be held at Haven’s Kitchen in New York City on July 1st. There, the finalists will present their dishes and pairings to a distinguished panel of judges- 2011 US Copa Jerez winner Executive Chef Bertrand Bouquin; 2009 US Copa Jerez winner Sommelier Roger Kugler; 2007 US Copa Jerez winner Executive Chef Andy Nusser; and Steve Olson, aka wine geek. The winning team will be announced that night and will go on to compete in the international finals in Jerez, Spain this October! Wish James and Miguel luck! (And come taste their artistry–new sherry cocktails at Taberna, and La Boca’s long-time favorite Thursday tapas and sherry pairing).
